Mapei are delighted to announce that they have been shortlisted at the New Civil Engineer Tunnelling awards for Product/ Equipment Innovation of the Year, for their work on the Crossrail Farringdon tunnel using the Mapeplan system.
Mapei continually invests in material innovation with the main aim of improving construction materials whilst simultaneously minimizing environmental impact. In the case study, the Client, Crossrail, had exacting standards throughout this project. This required an adaptable waterproofing system that could cope with the complexity of effectively waterproofing a tunnel to the highest standard. Mapeplan system not only offered adaptability in installation onto wet surfaces, but also the connection between running tunnels and cross passages, connection to precast segments and connection to adjacent sprayed sections.
Steve Price, UTT product manager at Mapei commented “we would like to thank both Crossrail , BFK and the installers for their continued support bringing all parties together to achieve a world class watertight tunnel.”
Waterproofing mega structures like the Crossrail Farringdon station requires a great deal of collaboration between designers, clients, contractors and manufacturers. At Farringdon, Mapei successfully combined material innovation with cross party collaboration, providing a complete system of robust waterproofing that is both hardwearing and durable whilst achieving the most cost effective and time effective installation rates.
Mapei hold seminars on underground tunnelling technology which involve guest speakers, cover case studies, and give helpful information about UTT products. Seminars are held at the Mapei Specification Centre based in Clerkenwell on the 7th September and 9th November, email email@example.com to book your place.
